QuarkXPress version 5.0 wins kudos at Gitex 2002
Leading distributor for QuarkXPress accepts special award at gala ceremony
Dubai, October 2002: QuarkXPress version 5.0 won an Award Of Excellence for ranking among the top 50 products of the year from Windows at its annual award ceremony as part of Gitex, the largest annual IT exhibition in the Middle East. QuarkXPress was judged one of the top 50 products of the year.
Joe Karkour, GM, Layout Middle East, said "This award proves that QuarkXPress is still one of the top products used today for DTP (desktop publishing) and that version 5.0 brings a handful of new features to enhance this product further."
QuarkXPress 5.0 fuses tools for print and Web design in a single, innovative application for media-independent publishing. It has a wide range of new and enhanced features to support print, Web, and PDF workflows. It is an open application that relies on industry standards to generate content for print, Web, and e-books. Users can import and/or export dozens of file formats, including HTML, PDF, and XML.
"We are confident that the new features and enhancements will help the industry become more efficient and more productive. QuarkXPress 5.0 is an important step towards helping publishers realize more cost savings by integrating layout and production for print, Web, and new media," pointed out Karkour.
The highlight for production workflows is the enhanced Collect For Output feature. Now, QuarkXPress 5.0 maintains a direct link from between documents and their collected images. This is a subtle, yet significant improvement that simplifies automated workflows with native QuarkXPress documents.
QuarkXPress 5.0 also empowers designers who create content for multiple media by bringing the world’s leading page layout environment to the Web. Designers who are familiar with QuarkXPress can become productive Web designers immediately without having to learn new tools.
With the release of QuarkXPress 5.0, publishers with multiple-seat installations will benefit from new license management software. Quark License Administrator makes it easy for organizations to install software and manage user access throughout the enterprise, so very large organizations can share the use of a smaller number of licenses.
"System administrators will love the way they’ll be able to manage their licenses using Quark License Administrator. No more dongles," added Karkour. "Quark License Administrator lets you install software on as many systems as you like while giving you the tools to insure that your top priority users always have access. And you have the flexibility to add new licenses any time you want, for whatever platform you need."
In addition, the powerful XTensions interface allows developers to enhance the functionality of QuarkXPress to meet the needs of unique publishing workflows. There are now more than 500 commercially available XTensions that augment the capabilities of the QuarkXPress software, delivering vital niche solutions to Quark customers.
